My Journey
My name is Amos Littrell, and my path to becoming a piano technician began in an unexpected place—a Navy USO basement filled with pianos bound for the landfill. In 2000, while stationed on a pre-commissioned ship in Pascagoula, Mississippi, I was given a unique opportunity: fix these abandoned pianos, and I could play them.
Armed with determination and a love for music, I taught myself the art of piano tuning and repair through countless hours of practice and research. Those early days weren't without challenges—I broke plenty of strings and made my fair share of mistakes. But with each piano, my skills improved, and my passion grew stronger.
After leaving the Navy, I continued honing my craft by tuning pianos found in want ads, offering my services to ensure these instruments found good homes in working condition. In 2003, after successfully tuning my father's old piano "to near perfection," I officially launched my business as "In-Tune Piano Service" in Mississippi.
My journey eventually led me to Kansas in 2005, where I served the Abilene and Salina areas. While piano tuning remained primarily a side business in these smaller communities, I continued to develop my expertise and build a reputation for quality work.
Two years ago, I made the move to Kansas City, where I discovered a thriving market for piano services. What began as a passion project has now become my full-time profession—allowing me to dedicate myself completely to the work I love.
